Saint Benedict Child Development Center:
A Stable and Caring Environment

Over 30 years ago we began a small head start program on the site of our former monastery in downtown Erie. Now it is one of the finest multi-faceted children’s facilities in the city. Over 120 economically disadvantaged children, ages 3 to 5, are taught and cared for at Saint Benedict Child Development Center. A staff of 40 full and part-time manages a daycare program, head start for migrant children, and infant care. More important the staff creates a space where children of different races and cultures can become friends, where they can play, solve problems, and learn together.

Saint Benedict’s Child Development Center was Erie’s first accredited early child care facility.
