Saint Benedict Child Development Center: Over 30 years ago we began a small head start program on the site of our former monastery in downtown Erie. Now it is one of the finest multi-faceted childrens facilities in the city. Over 120 economically disadvantaged children, ages 3 to 5, are taught and cared for at Saint Benedict Child Development Center. A staff of 40 full and part-time manages a daycare program, head start for migrant children, and infant care. More important the staff creates a space where children of different races and cultures can become friends, where they can play, solve problems, and learn together.
