Saint Benedict Education Center:
A Model Job Placement Program for Pennsylvania

Located in our former high school, Saint Benedict Academy in downtown Erie, SBEC offers intensive case management, academic remediation, job readiness preparation, job development and job placement assistance for some 800 people each year. Participants reside in Erie, Clarion, Crawford, Forest, Venango, and Warren Counties and are among the working poor. The programs offered by St. Benedict’s, under the auspices of Pennsylvania’s Department of Public Welfare, are designed to move families toward economic self-sufficiency. The 43 member staff of St. Benedict Education Center annually move approximately 70% of its program participants into the labor force and continues, for as long as a year, to assist the newly employed to persist and to advance in their employment.

St. Benedict Education Center has consistently been honored with an annual Governor’s Achievement Award.
