One aspect to consider early in your discernment process is if you are being drawn to a monastic, an apostolic or a cloister community. As Benedictines, as monastics, our priority is the communal search for God in community life and prayer. From our life flows a response in ministry. This is quite different from an apostolic congregation whose focus is ministry, as they draw support from each other and from prayer, or from a cloister community. Women come to a Benedictine community to seek God.Each woman hears a personal call from Jesus and responds. It is through a deepening relationship with Jesus that she grows in personal holiness and, in seeming paradox, finds her heart open wider to the human community.
