Benedict wanted his followers to be immersed in the Scriptures. Every spare moment was to be devoted to memorization. The Word of God was to become second nature. As you read his Rule, it becomes obvious that Benedict had acquired familiarity with the Psalms. He used more than seventy verses of Psalms in the Rule.

The Psalms can teach us to “listen with the ear of the heart (Prologue 1).” Read the Psalms; pray the Psalms. God’s voice will speak through them. What is God saying to you today and how will you respond?
