CHAPTER 11 - The Celebration of Vigils on Sunday 2

At the conclusion of the gospel reading, all reply “Amen,” and immediately the prioress/abbot intones the hymn “To You Be Praise” (Te Decet Laus). RB 11:10

Benedict established that Te Decet Laus should be sung in monastic matins on Sundays and festivals, after the gospel lesson. One of the first references to this hymn is found in the Apostolic Constitutions 7:48 and 3. The scriptural source for its texts seems to be Psalm 65.

To you praise is due,
to you a hymn,
to you glory,

God and Creator,
by thy Son in the Holy Spirit,
for ever and ever. Amen!
