CHAPTER 25 - Serious Faults

Anyone guilty of a serious fault is to be excluded from both the table and the oratory. RB 25:1

Benedict hardly ever mentions concrete faults. The penalties seem to be aimed at attitudes rather than physical violations. He is more concerned with conversion of the heart and peace among members. Possibly the type of exclusion mentioned by Benedict in this chapter may give one a chance to step back and see with greater clarity the depth of one’s heart. The separation might provide the needed reflection time to set one’s heart aright once again.
