Chapter 7- Fifth Step of Humility

The fifth step of humility is that we do not conceal from the prioress/abbot any sinful thoughts entering our hearts, or any wrongs committed in secret, but rather confess them humbly. (RB 7:44)

Am I too self-sufficient to learn from others?
Am I ready for self-disclosure?
What are my reasons for not sharing who I really am?

Moving toward a greater level of honesty about myself and being willing to be open with another can begin the process of transformation. The spiritual journey that Benedict describes moves us to self-revelation. Trusting in God’s mercy and grace is the basis of movement toward growth and hope.
