CHAPTER 9 – The Number of Psalms at the Night Office

As soon as the cantor begins to sing the Doxology, let all rise from their seats in honor and reverence for the Holy Trinity. RB 9:7

One is not to stay seated at the mention of the Trinity. Standing and bowing are gestures of honor and reverence. The Trinity is mentioned only two times in the Rule of Benedict (RB 9:7; 11:3). Reverence of the Trinity is especially important to Benedict as it is his hope that a spirit of honor and reverence will fill the hearts of each follower and overflow into every moment of each day. Might our lives reflect an atmosphere of reverential awe and gratitude?
