Benedictine Oblate Celebrates Landmark Anniversary with L’Arche Erie

Donna Carr

L’Arche Erie is celebrating its 40 year anniversary and long-time Benedictine Oblate, Donna Carr, celebrates 40 years as a member. Donna was an original member of the L’Arche community founded in 1972 by Fr. George Strohmeyer and Erie Benedictine Sr. Barbara Ann Karznia who died in 1982. L'Arche Erie was the first L'Arche community founded in the United States.

A dinner celebrating members with landmark anniversaries in this 2012 anniversary year was recently held. Benedictine Sisters Audrey Berdis and Rosanne Lindal-Hynes attended and paid tribute to Donna’s life and gifts. “I am so proud of Donna,” said Sister Audrey, staff member at Benetwood Apartments. “She has taught me a great deal. Donna never stops giving and last year alone she gave more than 200 volunteer hours at Brevillier Village.”

Donna, now a resident of Benetwood Apartments, continues her relationship with L’Arche Erie. She loves to paint and was honored that her art work was featured on the special plaque that each landmark anniversary celebrant received.
