Sister Joan Chittister, OSB, and “Awakening the Healing Heart: Transforming Communities through Love and Compassion”

Joan Chittister, OSB, is a major speaker and participant at the event “Awakening the Healing Heart,” being held at the UN Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya on March 2.

The all-day interfaith conference, which celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Global Peace Initiative of Women (GPIW)*, features presentations, panels and discussions on how to bring about a world of cooperation, sharing, respect, balance and healed relationships among all people and nations. A video of the event will be made available on the GPIW web site.

Following the Nairobi conference, the GPIW is offering a three-day conference at Ol ari Nyiro, the Laikipia Nature Conservancy also in Kenya. Sister Joan will again be a speaker and facilitator of sessions dedicated to cooperative living and learning among religious traditions and nations. Religious leaders from numerous traditions and countries are participating.

*The Global Peace Initiative of Women (GPIW), of which Sister Joan and Rev. Joan Brown Campbell, Chautauqua department of religion, are co-chairs and participants, has sponsored gatherings of spiritual leaders in Israel, Palestine, India, Taiwan, Egypt, South Korea, Australia, Switzerland and the United States throughout its 10-year commitment to work for justice and peace among all peoples of the world.
