Benedictine Sisters were among more than 100 people who gathered near a bridge overpass to pray for a young Erie man who was gunned down earlier in the month. Cameron Mitchell, father of a 3-year-old, was remembered at the "Take Back the Site" vigil along with the family and friends he left behind. The Benedictine Sisters, Sisters of Mercy and Sisters of St. Joseph organize the vigils each time there is a violent death in the city to pray for victims as well as perpetrators and their families and to reclaim the site for nonviolence.

Read more about the vigil in an Erie Times News story.

And in Sioux Falls, SD, a similar vigil was organized by Jean Bhatti, who was in the community's Benedicta Riepp program and later in initial monastic formation before returning to Sioux Falls. Her time with the community helped raise her awareness of injustice and violence and inspired her to make this public prayer for peace. In this video clip she explains the vigil. It was also written up in the Argus Leader.
