What Sisters and Oblates Are Reading

Prayers for the Stolen

by Jennifer Clement

Mary Jo Minello, oblate

Prayers for the Stolen was an emotional contemporary read.
Setting is the dark, unforgiving, dangerous rural mountains of Mexico.
There drugs, trafficking, and gangsters rule and steal young girls.
Ladydi is a fierce, funny and smart young lady living in lands where the cartels rule. She is living with the challenge to not be stolen.
Other girls are not as clever and their mothers are challenged to hide and protect their daughters. One girl is especially targeted. Very hard to read her story.
Her move to Acapulco, a job, and her first taste of love take a dark turn.
Despite the circumstances, Ladydi is the resilient heroine who brings hope to despair.
