CHAPTER 57 - The Artisans of the Monastery

If there are artisans in the monastery, they are to practice their craft with all humility, but only with the prioress'/abbot's permission ... so that in all things God may be glorified (I Pt 4:11). RB 57:1, 9

The whole of the Way of Benedict reflects that the follower is choosing God and desiring God's glory. We are to give glory to God in a different way than others might. The Way is neither for material gain or for popular success, nor for competition or a better reputation. Benedict tells us that we are to make God our only end. Any skills we have, first given by God, are to practiced with humility and reverence "so that in all things God may be glorified". All that we are and all that we do is meant to give glory to God. We are to be transparent so that others may see through the work of our hands the God that we are seeking.
