CHAPTER 62 - Priests of the Monastery

Just because he is a priest, he may not therefore forget the obedience and discipline of the Rule, but must make more and more progress toward God. RB 62:4

Progress, found here in this chapter, is an important word throughout Benedict's Rule. From the Prologue (49) onward, Benedict is advocating and teaching about living a dynamic life with daily, weekly, yearly progress as the goal. No matter what our role is in our community, family, workplace, neighborhood or world, we are to make more and more progress toward God. The whole point is to keep moving closer and closer to the God you are seeking. In this simple concept the whole aim and purpose of the spiritual life is summed up.
