Christmas Appeal 2017

Kind words are a creative force,
a power that concurs in the building up of all that is good,
and energy that showers blessings upon the world.
—L. G. Lovasik

Dear Friends,
The words on the Christmas tree are indeed a creative force because they describe you, our supporters, our sisters, and those we serve.

You are part of our extended Benedictine family and partner with us in so many ways. Whether it’s by making a financial gift, volunteering at one of our ministries, visiting and helping one of our sisters who can’t get out and about, or simply writing a kind note of thanks … you shower blessings on the sisters, those we serve, and our world. We are so grateful that you are part of our lives.

Every year we ask for your financial support and this year is no different. We look to the future of this community with hope, but our financial needs continue to grow. There is increased demand on our sisters and our ministries because the small city of Erie, which we call home, faces complex problems. Your financial gift will help rekindle the energy and creativity needed to bring change to a situation where 1 in 2 children under the age of five live in poverty; where 26.9% of our neighbors live in poverty; and where the poverty rate for women has climbed to 30% (Census Bureau, September 2016). Click here to donate now.

Your financial gift to this community is an investment in people of all ages, providing the tools necessary to develop their God-given gifts and live their lives in dignity. These can include:

  • a young child experiencing what it’s like to learn the discipline and confidence needed to perform on the stage;
  • an inner-city youth who is guaranteed a free hot meal after school;
  • an elderly couple who can sleep at night unafraid in their safe apartment;
  • a young person being challenged to become their best self by learning teambuilding and respect through sports;
  • a migrant worker family having access to quality childcare;
  • a family member needing help to find employment, or
  • a refugee learning new skills.

Your donation will also help us maintain our home, Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, that is a beacon of refuge, hospitality, prayer and home to many. It will provide the means for us to meet the basic needs of everyday life — pay our bills, buy food, welcome guests, and provide for our elders. Your Christmas gift to the sisters is a gift to the future.

I know you have many options when it comes to end of year giving… why not put us at the top of your Christmas list? It doesn’t have to be a large amount. Just consider a gift which is meaningful to you. Whether it is $1 or $1,000,000 we will be very grateful.

Click here to donate now on our secure website or send your donation to us via regular mail: Benedictine Sisters of Erie, 6101 E. Lake Rd., Erie, PA 16511. Perhaps you might also consider an alternative gift in celebration of a dear friend or family member. You could also continue the spirit of Christmas for the next year with a recurring gift. A monthly gift of $10 adds up and is processed automatically.

Thank you for showering “blessings upon the world” this Christmas and making our community a better place.

On behalf of the sisters, wishing you and your family a joyous, peaceful Christmas and a New Year filled with hope and kind words,

Sister Anne Wambach, OSB, Prioress
and the Benedictine Sisters of Erie

P.S. Please don’t put this letter aside. What better gift this Christmas than to send a donation to the sisters, in honor and celebration of a friend or family member, whether alive or deceased! Click here now.
