First Take Back the Site Vigil of 2016

The first Take Back the Site Vigil of 2016 was held on March 1 for Jemar Phillips who was shot to death on February 14. “We have not had a Take Back the Site Vigil since September, 2015,” said Erie Benedictine, Sister Marlene Bertke. “Wouldn’t it be amazing if this were to be the only vigil we needed to hold in 2016?”

The Vigil, a joint effort of the Erie Benedictines, Sisters of St. Joseph and Sisters of Mercy, along with their Oblates and associates, brought together a group of almost 100 people at the site of the crime to pray for Jemar and his family. A longstanding hope...

Spring Art Show Set to Open on Sunday, March 6

The Spring Art Show at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery, 6101 East Lake Road, will open on Sunday, March 6, with a reception from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The show will remain in the Chapter 57 gallery until April 24.

Take Back the Site Vigil to be held for Erie's first homicide victim of 2016

Once again, violence has touched the city of Erie. Jemar Phillips became Erie’s first 2016 homicide victim on February 14. He was shot several times by two people who are still at large. The Erie Police are hoping for a break in the case.
