The Easter season extends through Pentecost on June 9. The entire season is an invitation to open our eyes to new life, to see what is and to envision what can be. Jesus, the human life of God, is let loose in the world to empower us to be resurrection . . . . Alleluia!

2018 SBA Christmas Party

There is nothing like the SBA spirit and energy,” said Sister Rosanne Loneck when asked about the annual St. Benedict Alumnae Association (SBA) Christmas Party. “This group really knows how to enjoy a good time.”

And a good time the 320 guests had at the 29th Annual SBA Christmas Party held at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center. The signature gift baskets for the raffle were plentiful, 76 in all. The raffle is one of the highlights of the party and this year’s proceeds benefitted the Alumnae Association and the Inner City Ministries of the Benedictine Sisters.

Oblate Initiate Breanna Mekuly is headed to Panama

Breanna Mekuly, a new oblate initiate with the Erie Benedictines, will attend World Youth Day, an international Catholic event focused on religious faith and youth, due to be celebrated on January 22-27, 2019 in Panama City, Panama. "Will Run for ..." Emmaus Ministries

You’ve seen runners in jogging suits and the latest tennis shoes, but have you seen runners in Christmas sweaters and leggings? About 40 members of Team Adrenaline, a fitness group based out of the Krauza Chiropractic office in Erie, ran through Erie to Emmaus Soup Kitchen on Saturday, December 1st, donned in Christmas clothing.

Emmaus was chosen as the beneficiary of the group’s annual charity run that focuses on alleviated hunger and poverty by collecting donated food items.

Love Knows No Borders: A 24 hour procession with Our Lady of Guadalupe

On the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, join a prayer procession for migrants and asylum seekers stopped at our nation’s southern border. For 24 hours, a banner of Our Lady of Guadalupe will be processed around the federal courthouse in Erie.

A bountiful harvest

For the past three years Erie Insurance, along with the Bayfront East Side Taskforce (B.E.S.T.) and Master Gardeners Ellen DiPlacido and Mike Bailey, have provided the opportunity for the refugees at St. Benedict Education Center (SBEC) to maintain a garden they fondly call The International Family Garden. “This garden is a wonderful blessing for our refugees,” said Mary Lou McCall, SBEC Staff member. “At the beginning of November the group was still harvesting carrots and bok choy which added to the 963 pounds of vegetables they had already shared with each other. KFC for Emmaus

Typically, Fridays at the soup kitchen are known as “fish Fridays” because fish is always served. Friday, November 16th, however, was different at Emmaus; instead of fish, over 200 guests received a full meal from KFC of fried chicken, coleslaw, mashed potatoes and gravy. And one could tell the guests liked the food – the family dining room was silent while the children devoured their chicken!
