Kathleen McCarthy, Novice

Sister Kathleen McCarthy began her novitiate year on January 27, 2018. Her desire to continue to seek God with the Benedictine Sisters of Erie was ritualized at Vigil Prayer. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, Kathy was part of the L’Arche community in Erie for many years before moving to L’Arche Calgary, Canada where she spent the 16 years preceding her postulancy, the first phase of monastic formation, which she began on November, 2016.

The novitiate year is a special time in the initial monastic formation process where one is immersed in community life and fully experiences the living tradition of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie. Through prayer and study the novice has time to focus more intensely on deepening her relationship with God, self, others, and her sisters in community.
