2018 Annual Appreciation for Major Benefactors

“It is one of my privileges each year to express the enormous gratitude that the sisters and I have both for you and for your generosity,” said prioress, Sister Anne Wambach, as she welcomed the community’s major benefactors to the annual appreciation event. “This evening is an important opportunity for all of us to take a moment from our busy schedules to celebrate what is most important in our lives . . . a community of friendship and mutual support.”

The event was organized by the Development Office Staff: Sister Mary Jane Vergotz, Development Director, Jo Clarke, Oblate, Director of Annual Giving, Emma Lee McCloskey, Director of Major and Planned Giving, and Patti Eichen, Ann Comstock, and Susan Freitag, Development Associates.

A special Evening Prayer followed by a festive dinner, prepared and served by the monastery Food Service under the direction of Susan Krantz, was the setting to express thanks to the group of benefactors who provide major support to the mission and vision of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie. At the conclusion of Evening Prayer the Sisters’ Schola offered a special blessing to the guests by singing Irish Blessing composed by the late Sister Mary David Callahan, OSB. The sentiments were strong: “May God hold you, may your life be ever held in God’s hand.”

The benefactors support the ministries of the Benedictine Sisters and in so doing they invest in the future of the people served. “So often we take each other for granted, but when I stand here and look around at all of you, I have tremendous hope,” said Sister Anne in her dinner remarks. “I celebrate and honor each and every one of you. For your support, I say THANK YOU. Each gift — big or small — has made good things happen and touched the lives of all the sisters in this community. As a result, you have touched the lives of many others.”
