39th Annual Good Friday Pilgrimage for Peace

Walk the Stations of the Cross with the Sorrowful Mother and Mother Earth was the theme of the 39th Annual Good Friday Pilgrimage for Peace sponsored by Benedictines for Peace (BFP). Its intention was to bring greater awareness to the suffering caused by climate crisis.

“The suffering already caused by climate crisis and the need for effective environmental action will be the focus of prayer and reflection at places where that suffering is evident in our community today,” said Sister Anne McCarthy, BFP Coordinator. “Usually, during the Good Friday stations we focus on Jesus’ passion and how it is evident in our world today. With this year’s focus on Mother Earth and the urgent threats to our planet, we reflect on the passion through the eyes and heart of Mary, the Sorrowful Mother.”

Stabat Mater
At the cross her station keeping,
stood the mournful Mother weeping,
close to Jesus to the last.

Can the human heart refrain
from partaking in her pain,
in that Mother’s pain untold?
