Advent in Post-Election Times

Advent, 2016

As Benedictine Sisters of Erie we reaffirm our corporate commitment to be a healing presence and prophetic witness for peace during this post-election time that continues to speak to the heart of who we are: women desiring to be our best selves in the wake of the divisive and hurtful rhetoric and action that often plagued our nation over the past several months.

We accept the ongoing challenge to which we are called each day: to witness to Gospel values of love and justice, welcome and inclusion, forgiveness and compassion, kindness and care, as we live the Benedictine ideal of peace.

The Advent season approaches: a season that promises us that Emmanuel, God-with-us, will not fail us in our hope for better times for all people everywhere—a season in which we will pray for the coming of light to any darkness that threatens our world and our well-being.

With Benedictine resolve and empowered by courage and the conviction to work for the common good, we will glorify God in all things, cherish Christ, listen to the Spirit , reverence one another and uphold all in our efforts to bring hope and light to a waiting world.
