Annual Benetwood-Benedictine Dinner

“This is one of my favorite events,” shared Colleen, one of the guests who arrived at the monastery from Benetwood. “It’s always nice to be with the sisters and I always look forward to the prayer, delicious meal and dessert pies!” And thus began a very pleasant evening as the Erie Benedictines welcomed their neighbors from Benetwood Apartments for what has become an annual event: Evening Prayer and a special dinner ─ a simple celebration of friendship, faith, food and fun.

Evening Prayer in the chapel was followed by a festive meal in the monastery dining room. As the guests left their thanks rang out loud and clear: “Thank you for a wonderful evening. I enjoyed a great dinner and good company.” Another guest added. “Thanks so much for having us. It was really nice.”

Benetwood Apartments, a community ministry that offers monastic hospitality to low income, elderly, and handicapped persons, is located on property adjacent to the monastery. The apartment building is a government subsidized non-profit facility administrated by Sister Patricia Hause, OSB. Her staff includes Benedictine Sister Marla Bleil, Wendy Wallace and assistant manager, Ryan Eckert.
