Art Show Opens at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery

Guests vist the gallery and speak with Sr. Kathleen.

The Chapter 57 Gallery was lined with guests for the opening of the 2012 Spring Art Show celebrating Women’s History month. The show includes the work of 25 women artists, all of them sisters, oblates or friends of the community. The scope of the show is vast and includes an array of media: paintings, ceramic pieces, photographs, fiber art, cross stitch, and wood pieces, to mention a few.

One side of the gallery is devoted to the works of Sister Kathleen Ruszkowski, OSB. In the words of Georgia O’Keefe, “To create one’s own world in any of the arts takes courage.” This retrospective proclaims Sister Kathleen’s courage to explore a variety of media. It shows diverse technique and subject matter and celebrates a multitude of artistic achievements.

Gallery hours coincide with those of the monastery’s Chapter 57 gift shop. Guests are welcome to visit the gallery: Sundays, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

Some of the works are for sale, others not; but all are meant to be enjoyed. The show gives voice to women artists. Do come and visit. You may be inspired; you may simply be delighted. In either case, you won’t be disappointed.
