Catholic Day of Action with DREAMERS

On Tuesday, February 27th at 10:30 a.m. members of Benedictines for Peace (BFP): Sister Anne McCarthy, Oblate Jacqueline Small, Breanna Mekully and Sam Miller, will gather with Catholic sisters from across the country outside the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, DC, to advocate for a clean DREAM Act without any further delay.

Women religious and supporters will urge House Speaker Paul Ryan and other Catholic lawmakers to embrace the principles of Catholic social teaching and protect more than 800,000 immigrant youth from deportation.

Each day without a Dream Act, 122 young immigrants lose their protection from deportation because of President Trump’s decision last fall to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

“Advocacy support is critical to this action,” said Sister Anne McCarthy, BFP Coordinator. “We hope to drive thousands of calls to Congress.”

Show support by making the call:
Call 855-589-5698 and press 1 to be connected to your Senators. Call again and press 2 to be connected to your Representative.

Once connected please ask the person on the phone to deliver this simple message to your legislator:
“I urge you to support a bipartisan and humane solution for Dreamers: Protect Dreamers from deportation and provide them with a path to citizenship. Reject proposals that undermine family immigration or protections for unaccompanied children. As a Catholic, I know that families are not “chains,” but a blessing to be protected. Act now to protect Dreamers, our immigrant brothers and sisters.”

Catholic Day of Action with DREAMERS can be followed on February 27 at Facebook live and BFP Facebook.
