International Women's Day and NCSW

“Today is International Women’s Day,” said Sister Anne Wambach, prioress. “Here at the monastery we try to be mindful and celebrate women’s achievements each and every day.”

International Women’s Day is annually held on March 8, which is now also the designated opening of National Catholic Sisters Week (NCSW). Both celebrate women’s achievements throughout history and across nations.

Sister Anne continued: “The Rule of Benedict (RB 72:3) explains, ‘This, then, is the good zeal which monastics must foster with fervent love: They should each try to be the first to show respect to the other.’ This is what gives International Women’s Day and the opening of NCSW special meaning for us. As Benedictine Sisters of Erie, we reverence women and celebrate their gifts. We are grateful that we have so much to celebrate.”
