Jubilarians Celebrating 60 Years Renew Vows

Where, oh where, did the last month go? That's how long it has been since the sisters celebrating 60 years of monastic profession renewed their vows at a special evening prayer for the community. “It feels like it was just yesterday,” shared Sister Rita, one of the jubilarians. “The memory of a beautiful time together remains alive in my mind and heart.” And now there are picutres to accompany that memory! The community affirmed the vow renewal of Sisters Mary Therese Egan, Justina Gutowski, Phyllis Schleicher and Rita Zattosky with a joyous “Amen, Alleluia!” and joined with them in singing the suscipe: “Uphold me, O God, according to your word, and I shall live. Do not fail me in my hope.” This chant, taken from Psalm 119, expresses trust in God's goodness and goes back to monastic profession ceremonies in the time of St. Benedict himself.

A festive dinner followed at which all the jubilarians, including the Golden Jubilarians whose jubilees will be marked in a public celebration later in September, and the community enjoyed a special evening together. “It was a night of simply being with one another,” said Sister Anne Wambach, prioress. “It was a time of being reminded that love of God and fun and companionship are among the blessings of community.”
