KFC for Emmaus

Typically, Fridays at the soup kitchen are known as “fish Fridays” because fish is always served. Friday, November 16th, however, was different at Emmaus; instead of fish, over 200 guests received a full meal from KFC of fried chicken, coleslaw, mashed potatoes and gravy. And one could tell the guests liked the food – the family dining room was silent while the children devoured their chicken!

Kentucky Fried Chicken, or KFC, started a “day of giving,” encouraging their franchises to hand out free meals to guests of local nonprofits. Scott Hugan, franchise owner at four Erie KFC locations, chose four nonprofits in Erie to share food with. Safe Net, the Upper Room, City Mission, and Emmaus received over 800 meals from the KFCs in Erie.

“We want to be involved in the community every way that we can,” said Scott. “We look forward to doing this again next year.”
