March 25: Day of Prayer

“Bishop Persico has called for a day of prayer on Wednesday, March 25, the Solemnity of the Annunciation of Jesus,” shares Sister Anne Wambach, prioress. “This day on which Mary said yes to God in her Magnificat is a day for us to say yes in a commitment to prayer for all who are affected in some way by the current COVID-19 crisis.”

The Day of Prayer announced by Bishop Persico includes an invitation from Pope Francis: “In these days of trial, as humanity trembles at the threat of the [coronavirus] pandemic, I would propose that all Christians join their voices together to heaven.” The Pope specified midday, 12 noon, as the time that Christians everywhere would pray together the Prayer of Jesus (the Our Father).

Bishop Persico said: “As a Christian community, we must intercede on behalf of each other.” In his appeal for all those affected by the pandemic, Bishop Persico urged prayer for government leaders, researchers, healthcare workers, the sick, our communities, those suffering financial hardship, and those who have died, as well as their families.

Sister Anne encourages all to embrace this opportunity: “May this March 25 Day of Prayer be an opportunity to keep us mindful of all those in need at this time and may we join together from wherever we are in praying the Prayer of Jesus at 12 Noon.”

The Diocese of Erie will livestream the prayer and will continue with a rosary for the intentions listed above. Visit www.ErieRCD.org/inspiration.html to view the livestream beginning at 12 noon.
