Mexican Oblates Celebrate 15 Years

Sister Anne Wambach, prioress, and sub-prioress, Sister Susan Doubet recently visited the Erie Diocesan Mission of Friendship in Mérida, Mexico to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Mérida Oblates of Mount Saint Benedict Monastery. A festive liturgy was the setting for the ceremony at which 19 oblates renewed their commitment. “Receiving and reading oblate commitment papers is always a humbling experience, and no less so when they are in Spanish. It was an honor for me to share in this special anniversary celebration, re-commitment ceremony and wonderful hospitality,” said Sister Anne.

A number of Erie Benedictines have volunteered at the Mission of Friendship over the years and many others have visited and sponsored families there. It is through those relationships that a desire to follow the Rule of Benedict grew in the hearts of the men and women who now live the oblate life in Mérida.
