The Saint Benedict Academy (SBA) Alumnae Association raised $6,000 for three ministries of the Benedictine Sisters: Benetwood Apartments, St. Benedict Community Center and St. Benedict Education Center, at their 2010 annual Christmas Party. A check for $2,000 was presented to each of the respective directors at the SBA Executive Board meeting held recently at Mount Saint Benedict Monastery.

The president of the SBA Board, Mary Rita Roach Groucutt '72, asked each of the directors how they planned to use the gift. Sister Pat Hause, director of Benetwood Apartments, said they will replace outdoor benches along the walkways surrounding the 75-unit complex. St. Benedict Community Center will use the funds for equipment for children's athletics, said director Sister Dianne Sabol. "Jerseys need to be replaced and the ball rack is held together now with duct tape," she explained.

Sister Miriam Mashank directs St. Benedict Education Center, housed in the building that until 1988 was St. Benedict Academy, alma mater of the SBA Association members. She not only described the refugee program at St. Ben's that will benefit from the donation but also invited the board members to stop by and "walk the halls" again.
