Say no to violence

August 4, 2019

We, the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, are grief-stricken by the senseless loss of life and severe injury to the minds, hearts and spirits of the many who were affected by this weekend’s mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton.

We uphold in prayer the victims and their loved ones, the perpetrators, and the countless number of witnesses, first responders, and law enforcement personnel who have been deeply affected by these irrational acts of violence.

As Benedictine Sisters of Erie we seek to uphold the Gospel and work for a world where respect of all living beings finds expression in an approach to life free from violence.

Let us work together to confront the culture of violence that continues to intensify in our world. Let us promote peace and the prevention of all forms of violence that diminish the life and dignity of all. Let us witness to reverence and respect for all life.

May the leaders of our country—all those in positions to make urgent and necessary changes—hear the cries of all of us who are devastated by the senseless violence and terrible loss that gun-related tragedies have borne.
