ServErie at Emmaus Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry

We’ve heard of – and maybe participated in – spring cleaning. But is “fall” cleaning a thing, too? At Emmaus it is! The Emmaus Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry got a major deep cleaning the first Saturday in November by volunteers organized via ServErie.

ServErie serves as a linkage; they connect groups of volunteers with agencies in need of service projects. “Erie is filled with kind-hearted, generous people who desire to serve others,” ServErie states, “but many do not know where to begin. We mobilize and equip volunteers from all walks of life and connect them to the pressing needs of our community.”

“ServErie offered to meet our need of a deep fall cleaning,” said soup kitchen volunteer Marie Wolf, “so they matched us with Mercyhurst students. Interestingly, these are the same students who regularly serve lunch at the kitchen each Saturday! So they were very familiar with the space.”

The eight students, along with their ServErie site leader Jared, scrubbed walls, chairs, tables, floors, and bathrooms for three hours.
