The sun came out and the spirit was tangible--success at its best!

It was a misty morning out at Lake Shore Country Club on Monday, June 17, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of the 140 golfers who gathered for the first ever Benedictine Sisters Golf Charity Fundraiser. Excitement permeated the air. Volunteers were in abundance. Everything was in place.

Greeters welcomed all guests with trademark Benedictine hospitality and pointed them in the direction of the sign-in table where they could make a donation for an opportunity to putt with the prioress, purchase fifty-fifty, tickets, and take a chance on a wine raffle. Lunch was available thanks to the grilling expertise and serving capabilities of volunteers who passed out hot dogs, snacks, homemade cookies, and drinks. Old friends reconnected; new friends were made. Camaraderie was strong. Before long it was time to golf.

The sun came out; carts filled up and off they went. Teams of four headed out to the green with direction and purpose and played their hearts out. By early evening everyone was ready to enjoy a great dinner, score results and prizes. An added treat was the blessing prayer sung by the Monastery Schola.

A special shout-out goes to Sister Mary Lou Kownacki and the committee for a stellar job—well organized, with unique Benedictine touches and a cohort of volunteers recognizable by their green t-shirts. “By all standards, the event was a grand success,” said Sister Anne Wambach, prioress. “Our gratitude runs deep for all the sponsors, participants, and many committed hands that worked hard to make the day memorable. Maybe the first-ever will become the first annual!”
