Vigil for Immigrant Children

On Wednesday, September 4th, Erie Benedictines for Peace (BFP) is sponsoring a vigil for immigrant children in front of the Governor's Northwest Regional Office at 100 State St. in Erie from 12:15 - 12:45 pm. This is in conjunction with the Catholic Day of Action for Immigrants, a nonviolent demonstration happening in Newark, NJ at the same time. Some from Erie Benedictines for Peace are participating in the nonviolent action in Newark.

Images of immigrant children detained in cages, living in unsanitary, unhealthy conditions have outraged the nation in recent weeks. Pictures of children crying for their parents stolen from them by ICE shame us all. Catholics and others of faith have decried this treatment of children not only as a violation of human dignity and rights, but also as contrary to religious teachings and the sacred call to care for people who are most at risk, especially children.

Join Benedictines for Peace as we gather on September 4 to renew and amplify our call for the Trump Administration to end the abuse and trauma of migrant children and stop separating families at the border and in the interior. Help us show the Administration that our Catholic faith demands we all treat our neighbor as ourselves.
